The UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) is a national level exam in India which is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the roles of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professors in Indian universities and colleges. In India this exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of University Grants Commission.
According to the latest UGC notice, all the qualified candidates are categorised into three groups. Those who secure the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) fall into Category I. Students who score higher marks in UGC NET are placed in category II that is Assistant Professor, while candidates with lower marks are placed in category III that is Ph.D. above the minimum cut-off. UGC NET is conducted to determine the eligibility of students for the following:
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) : It enables the candidates to receive financial assistance from the government for research in their chosen field.
- Assistant Professor : This bracket qualifies the candidates for teaching positions in Indian universities and colleges.
- Admission to Ph.D. Programs : This bracket qualifies the candidates for admission to Ph.D. programs in the various listed universities and colleges.

Marking Scheme
- No Negative Marking : There will be no deduction of marks for incorrect answers marked.
- Incorrect / Ambiguous Questions : If any question is deemed to be incorrect or ambiguous and has multiple correct answers, then only those who attempted that question and chose any of the correct answers will receive the credit.
- Dropped Questions : If any question is found to be incorrect and dropped from exam, then 2 marks will be awarded to candidates who attempted the question.
